Populations change over time. Notice the image to the moths. They are the same species but their coloration varies. If the habitat of the two moths does not change, which moth is most likely to survive and why? Imagine a change in the habitat. It is the industrial revolution: factories are spewing out smoke and dust. Soot covers everything! Explain how this might effect the populations of moths in the area.

The black species of peppered moths which previously stood out against the white tree bark will now blend in because of the layer of soot covering the trees, causing their numbers to rise. Furthermore the white moths which used to blend in will now be chosen against and their populations will fall.
