Pangaea was a supercontinent. This was a land mass that included all continental masses on Earth, and it was the last one of this type. There were two other supercontinents after it broke apart, but they were not consisted from all land masses. Pangaea formed in the late Paleozoic era, around 335 million years ago, and it existed until the early Mesozoic until it started to break apart around 175 million years ago. After it broke apart, there were two large continents that were short lived, Laurasia on the north, and Gondwanaland on the south, and from the further breaking apart of these two the modern day continents have formed.
