Humans have destroyed many rainforests around the world because as humans we are constantly needing paper, so big top dollar companies go to these forests in search of trees to chop down, as well as palm oil.
The user above me mentioned some good ones. But I have one more- which is agriculture. Agriculture is something like farming- it is where we get our grain. Agriculture requires a lot of space and that is pretty obviously something we are running out of. Therefore, many use the 'slash and burn' to clear out rainforests quickly and leave behind fertile soil suitable for growing foods such as grain. Agriculture may also be some people's source of revenue which is why they are left with no choice but to take trees in tropical rainforests. For example, the Amazon has already lost 7% of it's forest since 1970 just to agriculture purposes. That is how man has altered the tropical rainforest. Hope this helps ;)
