They thought Patriots were too radical.
Loyalists were Yankees colonists who remained loyal to a people Crown throughout the yank Revolutionary War, typically referred to as Tories, Royalists, or King's Men at the time. They were opposed by the Patriots who supported the revolution and referred to as the "persons inimical to the liberties of America". They wanted to pursue peaceful forms of protest because they believed that violence would give rise to mob rule or tyranny.
