The correct answer to this open question is the following.

With my knowledge in the global dimension of business, I can critically advise her on these five options or roles she could pursue.

The first thing I would say is that she is about to enter into a fascinating world of international business that although its complex, it also has many satisfactions due to the permanent contact with many people from other parts of the world that have different but interesting customs, culture, history, and traditions.

I would advise Shirleyann to pursue a role in the Research and Development of new products and services because the international market is so competitive that innovation is a big component of the global value chain. Then, Shirleyann could try the area of Design, another component of the global value chain, because designing specific products for specific markets gives added value to the chain. For that to happen, you need to be an expert on the necessities and wants of other markets.

Shirleyann also can participate in the Production, a key part of the global chain because mass production is so important to fabricate the products on time, with high quality, and send them to the different markets worldwide. Then Distribution would be my next recommendation. To transport products via sea, land, or air, depending on the territory, has become an art. Cargo planes, ships or land transportation is a clock-wise machine to deliver the product on time in so far away places. Finally, I would recommend Shirleyann to understand and try the Marketing component of the global chain, because market the product, create the proper marketing plans for different countries, the strategies and selling policies, is a real challenge in the modern world with so many competitors trying to reach similar markets.
