Hey Mate!!
Well, Sherliey Jackson issues a warning to be an independent thinker in her story “The Lottery.” Everyone goes along with the lottery merely because it is a tradition. No one ever thinks about what is really happening, each year they are killing one of their loved ones. People gather on what seems to be an ordinary sunny day: the men discuss crops and taxes, the women gossip, and the children “broke into boisterous play.” There is no indication that anything terrible is about to happen. The lottery is an annual tradition, with specific rituals observed. It happens on "June 27", Mr. Summers oversees it, a specific box is used to hold the slips of paper. The box is falling apart, but although people talk about replacing it, “no one liked to upset even as much tradition as was represented by the black box.” The town is heavily influenced by custom. No one evaluates the true purpose and the effect of the lottery.
Hope this helps <3!!

Explanation:
Okay so i just recently read this.
So the main idea of The Lottery is that you cant trust anyone. In the village or town, they all have a celebration(event) Each year or so. Only about 100 or so people live in that town. If you read the story there are hints they are preparing for something big, children gathering rocks, adults having big meals and talking to one another who they with to win the lottery. At first you would think the children are just playing with rocks, but theyre preparing for more. Families hold dearly to theyre beloved ones. Everyone puts theyre man into the lottery box for who they want most to win. 5 go up on stage and the decide who is the winner by further reading. It comes down to a important man in the town. Everyone grabs a rock and chucks it at him and he dies.
In my opinion, In conclusion the story talks about not trusting people and to be careful with who you are with, even family can take you out.
(its a very sad and odd story but meaningful in its own way if you really read the short story. I had to read it in class)
