The writing style of many works of puritan literature can be described as simple and direct. Puritans were the dominant forces in North America for most part of the 17th century. Anne Bradstreet, William Bradford and Edward Taylor are successful authors that represented the puritan culture. The main theme of most of all puritans' work of literature was religion and their moral principles. Their writing style was often a simplistic one, avoiding complexity in their vocabulary or syntax, to give a direct speech in the form of a clear and direct speech.
