In your hotel, you have wifi and probably you have a local sim card. You are not really far away from home. You can check your e-mails regularly and probably you end up chatting with a colleague about work. When you return home, you had probably also a nice time, but partly you worked and spent online time with friends.
Of course, today we have advantages to old school. Maybe you found a perfect trip in the internet and you would not have been able to detect it in the "old school world", but sometimes I miss "old school" a bit
