OKAY! So, this problem can also be written as 17/3 + 15/4. That can be converted to 64/12 + 45/12, which is 109/12. that is 9 and 1/12.

Well you need to make 5 2/3 and 3 3/4 into improper fractions by doing the sum 3 x 5 + 2 over the original number. e.g 3 3/4 4 x 3 = 12 + 3 = 15  15/4

Do that for both and then add them together by creating the same bottom number (you can do this by multiplying the two bottom numbers) then add the top numbers but don't change the bottom numbers. 

17/3 +15/4

68/12 + 45/12 = 45 + 68 = 113/ 12
