Various parts of a DC motor are coil of wire, armature, field magnets, brushes and commutator.

The coil of wire plays a vital role in DC motor. Its function is that it rotates in a magnetic field. The coil needs a current supply to do this. The brushes connected to the coil provides the current through a split ring called commutator.

When the DC motor rotates, it produces a torque. The coil present in the steady magnetic field rotates in a plane which is perpendicularly to the magnetic field .The commutator present in the DC motor reverses the current for which the the torque produced on the DC motor keep reversing every time.

The field magnet used in DC motor is a permanent magnet and it is radial in nature.
