On March 2nd, 1836, Texas declared its independence from Mexico. Many battles were fought and lives were lost during the Texas Revolution but Texans had gained their independence in the end. From 1836 - 1845, The Republic of Texas was an independent country. Think about the challenges and accomplishments of each Sam Houston, Mirebeau Lamar, and Anson Jones when they served as presidents of the Republic of Texas. To annex Texas to the United States was not only a debate in Texas, but in the United States for a few good reasons.
