When the water moves faster there is more erosion, and where the water mover slower there is more deposition. Both erosion and deposition affect the flow of the water.

EXPLANATION:

• Erosion

Erosion changes the earth’s surface. It causes soil and rock to move. One cause of erosion is flowing water. Flowing water erodes both soil and rocks. Flowing water causes the sediment to move. When the water flows, it gets energy from its movement. Moving and flowing water has kinetic energy. This kinetic energy causes the rock and soil to move from its place. Thus, the faster the water flows, the strong the kinetic energy and the more erosion happens. The steeper the slope, the faster the water flows.

• Deposition

When water reaches flatter land, such as a pond or small lake, the flow will be slower. Water will start to drop the particles it was carrying. As the flow of the water slows down, water drops the largest particles first, then to the smallest particles. When there are a lot of particles, the water flow will slow down. The condition of water dropping its carried particles which then affect its flow is called deposition.

Water flowing over the earth’s surface causes deposition and erosion. Water moves faster over the steeper slope and causes more erosion. When the water arrives in a flatter land, it will drop its carried particles which later slower its flow.
